Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, abbreviated as Battlefield 2 or BF2, is a first person shooter developed by Digital Illusions and published by Electronic Arts. This third game in the Battlefield series was released on June 21, 2005 exclusively for the PC. Console versions of the game were released for the Xbox, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 under the title Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. Although the console titles share the Battlefield name and its setting, they are considerably different in execution, content, and gameplay. The most recent PC update, version 1.50, released on September 1, 2009, adds Euroforce and Armored Fury booster pack content, as well as the Highway Tampa and Operation Blue Pearl game maps. During the early 21st century, a fictional world war takes place between China, the European Union, a Middle Eastern Coalition, Russia and the United States. The European Union and United States are allies, fighting China and the Middle Eastern Coalition.
The European Union has also negotiated a peace treaty with Russia. Available game fronts are the Middle East and China, being invaded by the United States and European Union forces, and the United States, being invaded by the Chinese and Middle Eastern forces. Within this first person shooter that includes RPG and strategy elements, players fight in a modern battlefield and use modern weapon systems.The single and multi-player modes use the same maps, as well as the in-game conquest mode. Single player mode includes three difficulty levels and sixteen computer-controlled players. Multiplayer mode allows up to 64 players via the Internet. In multiplayer, gamers organize into squads under the leadership of a single commander to promote teamwork.Select from among 3 factions for gameplay: the United States Marine Corps, the People's Liberation Army, or the fictional 'Middle Eastern Coalition'.
